Global Haltech Investing on Halal Testing and Halal Online Market Place
To fulfill the needs of global community demand towards halal based products in ensuring the safety and cleanliness of the consumables and other needs.
KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia – Addressing a pressing need in the global Halal marketplace to determine the animal origin of gelatin, a highly processed protein, commonly used in food, personal care and pharmaceutical products, Global Haltech Sdn Bhd (Global Haltech) via its subsidiary company Halvec Laboratoties Sdn. Bhd (Halvec) signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Thermo Fisher Scientific Sdn Bhd aiming to deliver an international reference method for gelatin analysis.
As part of this collaboration, Global Haltech’s scientists in Halvec Laboratories will use highly the new Thermo Scientific TSQ Altis Triple Stage Quadrupole mass spectrometer and Thermo Scientific Vanquish Flex Binary UHPLC System. They will be supported by Thermo Fisher Scientific’s technical experts based in United States and Singapore.
“Manufacturers around the world face challenges in identifying the animal origins of common proteins used in their products,” said Dipankar Ghosh, director, environmental and food Safety, life sciences mass spectrometry at Thermo Fisher Scientific. “Manufacturers of food, personal care and pharmaceutical products need robust testing methods for gelatin analysis to meet the most stringent halal certification requirements. Thermo Fisher’s collaboration with Global Haltech is a positive step forward in helping manufacturers meet their scientific and regulatory goals.”
“For highly processed proteins such as gelatin, which could be from different meat sources, there is no routine application specially developed for use by product manufacturers and standards bodies to test and verify its origins,” said Nor Amin, Chief Executive Officer, Global Haltech. “We believe that this plan to develop a routine analysis that can be applied as a standard application could be a first in the halal science ecosystem. With a routine application developed, both halal certification bodies and manufacturers of personal care, pharmaceuticals and food will have a standard method for gelatin origin and meat speciation.”
Presently, Halvec Laboratories is conducting analysis to determine the origin of gelatin in some food and personal care products, cooperating closely with agencies and manufacturers from Japan, Korea, Indonesia, Thailand, Europe and the Persian Gulf countries.
“The global halal market opportunity is estimated to reach US$3.7 trillion[1] in 2019and Malaysia exported RM42.17 billion[2] (approximately US$10.12 billion) worth of halal products and services last year. The collaboration will enable Global Haltech and its subsidiary, Halvec Laboratories, to continue to uphold the sanctity of the halal ecosystem through halal science. The collaboration is an important milestone in Malaysia’s goal to be the global halal testing hub of the world,” said Amin.
In conjunction with that, Global Haltech through its subsidiary Myhalmart Sdn. Bhd (Myhalmart) signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Tourmaker Inc. Korea and Haltrade UK LTD. to establish Myhalmart Korea and Myhalmart UK respectively to cater growing market demand on halal products globally. “The key missions of Myhalmart are to expand the market of halal based products from Malaysia to international market via myhalmart.com e-market place as well as offline halal mart and to nurture Halal entrpreneurs to develop businesses in Halal market segmentation. A strategic marketing plan has been moduled to capture the market share of local and global halal consumer markets”, said Amin
In general, the collaboration with international partners is aimed to create online and offline halal hub in Asia and Europe region as a source of halal based product worldwide. “We are offering a complete halal solution from lab to shelf by providing attractive packages to all halal based industry players or small and medium entrepreneurs who wish to market their products via Myhalmart’s marketing platform. This includes halal testing and monitoring, halal knowledge retooling and consultation, halal E-commerce marketing programs and halal business and advisory. Moving forward, we aim for market expansion to China, Japan and Australia for the first half quarter of year 2018.
